Week #5-- Arch

Author's Notes: This isn't exactly the best fic I ever wrote, but I was going through my flist when the idea just came to me so I figured I would get it down in time to enter it into avatar_contest

 

I’m the Avatar, and so I have to beat the Fire Lord now to restore balance… but eventually this will happen all over again. It’s like an arch, a never-ending circle of time. It’s in our natures. The Avatars have all the elements inside of them, but we manage to survive because we’re balanced. 

However, fire… it’s destructive and dangerous and given the opportunity it will consume everything, just like it’s benders. It’s not their fault, because they literally can’t help it. Fire is what they’re made of. But they do what it does- they’re dangerous, destructive, and they constantly want more. 

It can be a good thing… like when they want more from themselves, when they want to be better people, but it can be, and has been and is now, a terrible thing as well. I may defeat the Fire Lord now, but eventually another one will rise up and try to take over the world again, because that’s just who they are. They’re made to try to get further, try to achieve more than they did before. This just keeps going on, it will never end. It’s the story of history. They know what has happened in the past, but they will continue to try to take the world because they think that they’re the ones who can do it, they’re the ones who can “spread their peace and prosperity throughout the world.” They will never stop fighting to get it all. 

They may not stop, but neither will I. I can’t let them take over- I’m practically their opposite, I am the embodiment of balance and my nature won’t let them do this. And I can’t keep letting them hurt people either. The Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom- they’ve all been hurt by them, and I need to try to help in any way that I can. And my own people, the Airbenders, we were nearly completely decimated by them- except me. 

I need to make sure that no other nation is ever decimated ever again. I have to beat the Fire Lord now. And even if another one rises up in the future, I will again beat them and restore balance because that is my nature. Because I am the Avatar.

Interesting idea and content is good overall.

I would have found it more interesting if you would have added something about Avatar Kyoshi in fic since it seems that might be part of the bases for Aang's theory of the world.

It would be much easier on the eyes it you separated the text into smaller paragraphs.

I know!! There is nothing more annoying than people who do something just so you can compliment them...
