A man died this weekend.

He was one of more than fifty siblings, and fathered at least twenty-three children.

In the 1980's, he helped the U.S. by fighting in the U.S.-funded insurgency against Soviet troops in Afghanistan.

He was later nearly killed by the U.S.

In the 1990's, his family disowned him.

He has had a very difficult life.

And today, people celebrate his death.

I'm certainly not saying that I support Osama bin Laden, or that I condone any of his actions. He is, after all, the man responsible for approving the action that shattered my childhood, and brought the City that is my lifeblood to a standstill of shock and pain. The world is undoubtably a safer place without him in it. And, even though I would rather he weren't killed by the U.S., and thus, made somewhat of a martyr, I also know that there is no way we ever could have reached any kind of peace with him, and that some form of what happened was our only choice. I am well aware that this was our only option.

But a man died this weekend. And, no matter who he is, that is nothing to celebrate.

Hatred only begets more hatred. Violence begets violence.

There is no end result we could reach for. We can't try to find peace "in the end", because there never will be an end. But violence is never an acceptable means. And perpertrating that violence is not something to find laudable. It is something to be lamented.

I suppose what this all comes down to is... I'm not sorry that Osama bin Laden is dead. But I'm sorry that we killed him. And I refuse to celebrate his death.

The supernatural is real. Like, fortune-telling, superstition, ghosts, etc.

"I'm fat."
"I'm ugly."
"Yes, but you're smart- I'm a dipshit."
"My pores are huge!!"
"I'm... ah... not too athletic."
"I can't concentrate on anything- I'm so ADD! lol"
"I just know I'm going to make an idiot out of myself when I see her."
"I think the better question is why would he like me?  XD"

Why do people hate themselves?

This gets kind of lengthy, but I have a lot to say- it's something I've been thinking about for a while. )

Black is a color.

Would it be worth it to make a seperate Facebook account for professional stuff? I already have a professional YouTube channel, but... would there be a point to making a professional Facebook? I certainly wouldn't want anyone in the professional acting world to see my regular Facebook... but would there be any point yet?

I'm leaning towards yes, but... thoughts, internet?

...Dammit. I swear- that will never get out of my head.

So. Controversial post time again!! ...Sorta.

Remember when I made that post about gay rights? Well, this is similar, except, in light of his speech yesterday, about health care reform!

My opinion... )

Now, it's your turn!! What are your opinions on health care reform? Fellow Americans, do you think we need reform as much as I do? International friends, what are your health care systems like? And if you follow what's going on here in the US (I understand if you don't though, obviously), what do you think about what's going on?

1. No flaming. No wank. This is a discussion post. If you disagree with someone's opinion, you can say so in a polite, respectful manner. You can't start randomly bitching, being rude or anything else of the sort. You're my friends and I love you all, but I will delete your comments if I see that going on.
2. This is for discussion though- if you have a dissenting opinion, please share it!! Don't worry about anyone hating you for having a different opinion because we want different opinions- it makes the discussion more interesting!!
3. Have fun with it! Comment on what other people say, feel free to voice your own opinions- just don't be an ass, stay on topic and you can say whatever you want! There will be no judgements made here. Promise.

...Also because not everyone on my flist is a Trekkie, and I don't want to bore everyone with my Star Trek-related squee...

I'll ask about a hot topic issue!!! That is obviously the... logical thing to do. Yes. It is.  XD

The idea is somewhat stolen from [ profile] fearfulwarrior, but... not asking about religion here. At least not directly...

I'm asking about gay rights!!

My own opinions on the issue )
Comment here with your own opinions on the issue- I'm curious as to what you guys think! And the one thing I ask- I don't think any of you would do this, but as a precaution- no wank, and no flaming. I'm genuinely curious as to what you think, but we're all entitled to our opinions, and I don't want anyone to feel bad about what they believe. Arguing is fine, so long as it's friendly and respectful.
